Training Program

If you answered positively to all the above questions, you are ready to train for a marathon. Remember that a marathon is not only 4.2 times your 10-K race. It's 4 10-K races in a row! That means you will grow more tired with every kilometer, and will need to follow a slower pace than that used in your 10-K running. Ideally, test yourself at a Half-Marathon distance of 21.1 kilometers 10 to 12 weeks before the marathon. If you manage to finish comfortably, you're all set for the challenge of 42.195 kilometers.

Upgrading from 10km to 42km: Are you ready?

The 10-kilometer distance is a well-respected race in World Championships, but is more of a Fun Run at the Beirut International Marathon. It gives beginning runners a chance to start with a relatively easy distance, where they can alternate between walking and running. If you've completed a BIM 10-K in the past and are shifting towards a more serious training program, how do you know you're ready to take on a Marathon? Ask yourselves the following questions:

- How comfortable was I running the 10-K in previous BIM events?
- Am I currently able to run a 10-K in less than 90 minutes?
- Do I finish a 10-K run strong enough to take on more kilometers?
- Do I have the time and willingness to add more mileage to my current training?
